The 7 Noachide Laws



While Jews ("Children of Israel") are to fulfill the 613 mitzvot that rabbis find in Torah, "Gentiles" ("Children of Noah" or "Noahides" or "B'nai Noah" or "Hassidic Gentiles") are to follow the 7 Laws that Jews claim were given to Adam, and then to Moses through Noah (or directly to Noah, according to other traditions), and which were subsequently passed down through the ages until they were codified in the Babylonian Talmud. These Laws are:

• Do not murder
• Do not steal
• Do not worship false gods
• Do not be sexually immoral
• Do not eat the limb of an animal before it is killed
• Do not curse God
• Set up courts and bring offenders to justice

OK, not so bad; we can all live with that, right? What's the penalty for breaking one of these laws?

One additional element of greater severity is that violation of any one of the seven laws subjects the Noahide to capital punishment by decapitation. (Sanh. 57A) [my emphasis]

The Noahide laws, also called the Brit Noah (Covenant of Noah) are the mitzvot (commandments) and halakhot (laws) that Judaism teaches that all non-Jews are morally bound to follow. They are listed in the Talmud and elaborated on by post-Talmudic authorities. Congress and the President of the United States, George Bush, indicated in Public Law 102-14, 102nd Congress, that the United States of America was founded upon the Seven Universal Laws of Noah, and that these Laws have been the bedrock of society from the dawn of civilization. Other religions as Noahide
Islam

Islam has a different tradition on Noah and his descendants; the Qur'an mentions additional narrative on Noah. As stated before, the Jewish authority Maimonides has maintained that Islam is a Noahide religion, although the Medieval sage Nissim of Gerona disagrees.
Christianity

Within Judaism it is a matter of debate whether or not all Christians should be considered Noahides. The strict view is that Christian theology is considered avodah zarah (loosely translated as "idolatry") for all people, both Jew and gentile, as it subscribes to the Trinity. Therefore most Christians cannot be considered Noahides. However, Unitarian Christians and other followers of Jesus who do not believe that Jesus is God would still be considered Noahides.

Morality

7. The Children of Noah are permanently warned concerning the Seven Universal Laws. This means that ignorance of the law is not a valid defense. One cannot claim, for example, that he did not know that idolatry was one of the seven commandments. Nor can he claim that he did not know that bowing down to an idol constitutes idolatry. (He can, however, claim that he did not know that such‑and‑such was an idol, for this is not ignorance of the law.) Therefore, one is duty bound to study the Seven Universal Laws to the best of one's ability and to teach the knowledge of them to one's children.

8. When one of the Children of Noah resolves to fulfill the Seven Universal Commandments, his or her soul is elevated. This person becomes one of the Chasidei Umot ha‑Olam, the Pious Ones of the Nations, and receives a share of the Eternal World.[5] The Holy Scriptures call one who accepts the yoke of fulfilling the Seven Universal Laws a ger toshav, a proselyte of the gate. This person is permitted to live in the Land of Israel and to enter the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and to offer sacrifices to the God of Israel.[6]

United States Founded on Noahide Laws?

Having once thought that the "Noahide laws" were some entirely new thinking, I was shocked to find out that the first two clauses of the U.S. Joint Resolution designating March 26, 1991 as "Education Day, USA, stated that the United States of America was founded upon "Seven Noahide Laws" which were the bedrock of society from the dawn of civilization:

"Whereas Congress recognizes the historical tradition of ethical values and principles which are the basis of civilized society and upon which our great Nation was founded;

"Whereas these ethical values and principles have been the bedrock of society from the dawn of civilization, when they were known as the Seven Noahide Laws;..."

Masonic Influence in Noahide Laws

Having studied the American Mysteries in the form of Freemasonry, I was not at all surprised upon further research, to find that there was a Masonic or "mystery religion" connected to the Noahide laws. Being that a great many of the most influential founding fathers of America were Freemasons, it does not seem unlikely that America was formed in part on the so called "Noahide Laws" as suggested above.

Interestingly enough, famous occultists such as Albert Mackey trace the origins of the Noahide Laws to an ancient religion called "Arkite Worship".

In The History of Freemasonry, High Adept and Prince of Masonry, Albert Mackey, provides the sequel to the Egyptian/Kabbalist accounts of Noah:

According to some research I've read, Arkite Worship is a form of Kabbalist doctrine in which the Holy of Holies within the Temple is known as the "womb of nature" (Hat-hor) or Isis from the Egyptian Mysteries. As we point out in other articles, Albert Pike, a leading force in American Freemasonry, was a student of Jewish Kabbalah. It not unlikely that from this Kabbalistic interpretation of Scripture, Freemasonry derived its initiation rite of the third degree, in which the Master Mason is baptized into the death of Osiris and resurrected to immortality.

Getting to know the Grand Lodge of France

Is it a universal religion?

Indeed, if one considers the etymological sense of the word religion, from the Latin religare (to bind) or relegere (to take in, to gather together). Certainly not if we mean by that a separate and distinct religion, in competition with the others.

The Chevalier Ramsay used to declare: "Freemasonry is indeed the resurrection of the noachide religion, that of the Patriarch Noah, that religion prior to any dogma, which allows us to go beyond the differences and oppositions of the various faiths". Thus could always be found in Masonic Lodges men who call each other "Brother" even though often dissimilar in their origins, denominations, faiths, convictions and customs, but convinced of Freemasonry’s fundamental principle, the law of Brotherly love.

Let’s quote Anderson again, in his Constitutions which remain, for the Grand Lodge of France, the text of reference. It is said there: "masonry becomes the center of union, and the means of conciliating true friendship among persons that must have remain’d at a perpetual distance".

A universal and traditional order based on Fraternity, the Grand Lodge of France is fundamentally an initiatic order. It is Initiation which allows the "old man" to get rid of his old being and to be reborn, like the Phoenix, as a new man, able to reach the dimensions of his inner life and that which, in him, is spirit and liberty, understanding and love.

Universal Freemasonry and its principles

Freemasonry is a universal, traditional and initiatic order based on Fraternity.

It constitutes an alliance of free men of good repute, of all origins, all nationalities and all faiths.

The goal of Freemasonry is the moral improvement of mankind.

Since the adoption of these "natural laws" would place the entire international community under the Talmudic Law of Orthodox Judaism, the separation between church and state would be hopelessly obscured. Additionally, under Noahide Law as specified in the Talmud, there is no assurance of due process (only some sort of legal proceeding), no presumption of innocence until proven guilty, and no guarantee of a jury trial.

Even the requirement as stated in Deut. 17:6 of two or three witnesses being necessary to condemn a person to death is reduced to only one witness ("judged righteous") within the fine print of Talmudic Noahide Law. Furthermore, Gentiles and Jews appear to receive unequal treatment under these laws, to the degree that Jews may not be even liable for crimes committed against Gentiles.

Christians who worship Jesus Christ have been judged in violation of both the prohibitions against idolatry and blasphemy by many prominent Talmudic rabbinical scholars and could therefore be sentenced to death by decapitation for merely practicing their faith under literal Noahide Law. With no specific protections against cruel and unusual punishment, a literal interpretation of Noahide Law could even result in capital punishment for those accused of animal abuse - sure to make it extremely popular with PETA.

The process for eventual global implementation of this legal code would appear to have been initiated with the United Nations Security Council resolution of May 25, 1993 establishing an International Criminal Tribunal. (Claiming to act under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, the Security Council, in fact violated its own charter which originally stated that the Council has no power whatever in judicial matters - that power is supposedly vested within the current International Court of Justice, the same court which recently condemned Israel's construction of the West Wall.)

Early life

Born in Nikolaiev, Ukraine, Schneerson received mostly private tuition. He was enrolled in the secular Yekaterinoslav University for part-time study of mathematics at the age of 16. His father Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Schneerson, a renowned kabbalist who served as the Chief Rabbi of Yekaterinoslav (Dnepropetrovsk) from 1907-1939, was his primary teacher. He intensively studied Talmud and rabbinic literature, as well as the hasidic view of Jewish mysticism and Kabbalah. He married Chaya Mushka Schneerson in 1928 and went to live in Berlin, Germany, and study engineering and philosophy at one of its universities. Lubavitch publications state that he received "degrees at Heidelberg", although some surmise that this is "anecdotal". During his time in Berlin, he forged friendships with two other young rabbis studying in Berlin: Joseph Soloveitchik and Yitzchok Hutner.

France

In 1933 Schneerson moved to France. According to histories authorized by Lubavitch, he studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, though official school records are ambiguous on this matter. He learned to speak French which he put to use in establishing his movement there after the war. The Chabad movement in France attracted many Jews who immigrated there from Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia.
America and leadership

In 1941 Schneerson escaped from France on the Serpa Pinto, which was the last boat to cross the Atlantic ocean before the U-boat blockade began, and joined his father-in-law Rabbi Joseph Isaac Schneersohn in the Crown Heights section Brooklyn, New York. He spent some time working in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. In 1942, his father-in-law appointed him director of the movement's central organizations, placing him at the helm of a budding Jewish educational and hasidic outreach empire across the United States, Canada, Israel, and North Africa.

Schneerson instituted a system of "mitzvah campaigns" called mivtzoim; these encouraged Jews to be keep kosher, observe Shabbat, learn more Torah, help in writing a Torah scroll, taught women to observe the niddah laws of Jewish family purity (laws pertaining to menstruation and ritual immersion afterwards in a pool of water known as a mikveh), accepting a belief in Moshiach (the Jewish Messiah). They went out to street-corners, and rode in "Mitzvah tanks", mobile outreach centers, encouraging Jews to increase their religious observance. He also launched a campaign to promote observance of the Noahide Laws among gentiles.

Following the death of Schneerson's wife in 1988 he withdrew from some public functions and became generally more reclusive. In 1991, he stated that: "I have done everything I can do to bring Moshiach (the Jewish Messiah), now I am handing over to you (his followers) the keys to bring Moshiach." A final campaign was started to bring the messianic age through acts of "goodness and kindness" and his followers placed advertising in the mass media such as many full-page ads in the New York Times urging everyone to contribute toward the messiah's imminent arrival, by increasing in their good deeds.

During these appearances his followers would chant, what would come to be a very controversial "mantra" among the Lubavitchers : Yechi Adonenu Moreinu v'Rabbeinu Melech Hamoshiach l'olam voed! - "Long live our Master our Teacher and our Rabbi King Messiah forever and ever!" When sung before him in has last months, Schneerson evidently vigorously encouraged the singing by swaying to and fro and swinging his hand, as he had done at the numerous farbrengens over the years. From this and his previous public statements his followers "extrapolated" that he acceded to their wish that he be the "Messiah". But that moment never arrived, as he died unable to verbalize and say anything to confirm his followers' longed-for dream that he be the actual long-promised Jewish Messiah.

Succession

The Messiah question, combined with a Chabad tradition that the Messiah would come after the seventh Rebbe, probably complicated his succession. Chabad Hasidim believe that there is no successor to Rabbi Schneerson, and that he is in that sense still their leader. Many believe that he will return as the Messiah;
