Default AP plans guidelines on how much Web sites can copy

The Associated Press, one of the largest news organizations in the United States, said that it would, for the first time, attempt to define clear standards for how much of its articles and broadcasts bloggers and Web sites could excerpt without infringing on The AP's copyright.

They complained about quotes of 39 to 79 words.
If you count a paragraph it could easily be over 39 words. One paragraph. Much less then 6 to 8 lines now in the guide lines.

as long as people don't exceed a certain amount,
but what are they complaining about?
i mean the people getting the link and news are
going to THEIR SITE
and then spreading THEIR SITE to a dozens or hundreds or other
people who probably would never go there,
its good advertising and free.

Really does anyone in america care if there was a cyclone
only 300 kilometres away from brisbane 3 days ago,
or do i care if its too cold in montana or
whatever the news is in the world?
But i get their drift about protecting their text information being
made available for free....they need money.
except...
i got it for free in the first place.?
They could make millions of people pay by registering,
except then they would only have a dozen readers
instead of thousands.
We have small local papers that are FREE,
the only way they make money is by advertising.

i think its a catch 22 situation, they want exposure but want to limit
access which would in turn limit desirablity and then exposure.

the internet is the death of newspapers and detailed information,
now its fastfood, give me the guts of the matter i don't care
about the details , unless i'm really into that subject.

i admit sometimes i post TOO MUCH
text,
but its just to give the facts so if your interested
you can go there, like for the video.
I certainly don't want anyone to take MY WORD
as gospel,
I WANT people to go to their site/link to verify
for themselves that it is so.

anyway let us know what the new limits will be.... if any.
but anyone who has a site that is too difficult
to get into easy i just won't put in my favorites.
you see the problem they have?
